Kindergarten News
Joe is finishing up his kindergarten year. He is part of the last class of kindergartners to attend the Fairfield Kindergarten Center. Next year, they will be moving the kindergarten classes back to the home elementary schools. For us that means the twins will go to East with Joe when they enter kindergarten in 2012. We are hoping that our favorite kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Meyer, will be at East, as well. However, we don't know that yet!
Just like with Ben, I have enjoyed being able to plan and attend Joe's classroom parties. The kindergartners get so excited on party days! Five and six year olds are a lot of fun to hang out with! For his last party, Emma and Jacob were able to attend, as well. They enjoyed being kindergartners for a day!

Joe has been very busy at school, this year. He has been learning all of his letter, numbers, how to count, and how to read. They have hatched baby chicks. Joe became really attached to one particular chick. He said that the chick thought he was it's mommy. Caterpillars are coming in a couple of weeks. They will be able to watch them turn into butterflies. Joe likes seeing his friends and playing outside at recess. He says that he is ready for summer break so that he can stay at home with mommy. He wants to help me cook and do dishes. I'm sure that will change!
I'll leave you with a video of Joe reading one of the books he created in class. He wanted me to record it so that Ryan could hear what a good job he did reading it!

News from 3rd Grade
Ben has had a great time in 3rd grade this year! He has a wonderful teacher who he adores. Some of the things that he has been up to this year are:
Barter Day:
The kids learned all about money and how in the past the barter system was used. Each child had to create a project that they would use to trade with someone else on barter day. Here is what Ben created:

Bucket Filler
At Ben's school whenever someone does well, goes out of their way to be nice or to do a good job, they receive a bucket filler slip. Once they receive so many they are rewarded with special treats and privileges. Ben has received MANY bucket filler slips this year!

Classroom Parties
I have had the privilege to help out at Ben's parties this year. I love planning the parties and visiting his classroom. It is always a lot of fun!

Animal Project
In a couple of weeks, Ben will be going on his field trip. His field trip is an overnight visit at the zoo. This will be the first time that he is away from me, overnight, that he has not been staying with family. Unfortunately due to schedules, etc I am unable to chaperone! I will miss my guy while he's away! In preparation for the field trip, the third graders had to do animal projects. Ben chose a spiny leaf insect. They had to create dioramas/posters and write a report on their animal.

Science Night
Last week, we attended Science night at Ben's school. There were experiments and fun activities for all of the kids to participate in. At the end, Ben received some cotton candy. As we walked outside, we saw a perfect rainbow in the sky. At least something pretty came out of all of this rainy weather we have been having!

Blast from the past, get ready for the future!
Back in the fall, Ben told me that he wanted to participate in the school play. He told me that everyone who wanted to be in the play could be. So I signed him up. However, we did not realize that the play was a musical...and that he would need to try out. On the day of his first "practice" Ben had to get up on stage by himself and sing a song into the microphone. Since we didn't realize that it was a tryout, he had nothing prepared. Luckily we had watched Camp Rock 2 recently. It took a couple of weeks of waiting, but we found out that Ben had made the play! He even had a solo! Since October he has been going to practices weekly. On April 18th, the kids put on their musical. They sang many songs including the Beatles, Elvis, and Michael Jackson. They were all wonderful. Of course, I was extra proud of Ben. He did a swing dance, participated in many of the songs, and sang Love Me Do by the Beatles all by himself. I was a super proud mama that night!

It is hard to believe that there is one month, from today, left of school. It seems like just yesterday we were attending Open House. Next year, Ben will be in the 4th grade. At our school, 4th grade is the last grade in the building. It will be the only year that Ben and Joe will ever attend the same school together. My baby is growing up...too fast, if you ask me!

Then and Now.....
Easter 2011
We had a nice, quiet Easter this year. This is the first year that the twins were really looking forward to Easter and to the Easter Bunny coming.
We colored Easter eggs the day before using a new (and less messy) technique. You take the cooked eggs while they are warm and color/draw on them with crayons. The wax from the crayons melts and you can swirl colors or just leave them as they are. It was a lot of fun.

The night before Easter we set out our empty baskets for the Easter bunny to fill. We also set out a bowl of carrots for the bunny to have a snack.

Sure enough, while the kids were asleep, their baskets were filled to the brim.

The kids had chocolate bunnies, eggs, and jelly beans. They didn't know where to start first.

We had a great Easter dinner with a honeybaked ham and yummy desserts.

The only downside to the day is that it was rainy and muddy. Our Easter egg hunt had to be held inside this year. A far cry from the sunny day we had last year.
