Halloween Festivities Part I

I had a lot of plans for Halloween...I wanted to take the kids to a pumpkin patch, go to Hueston Woods to see the changing leaves...However, those things did not happen...the dreaded stomach bug hit us..twice..this fall. While I told myself that we hadn't had a stomach virus since the twins first birthday party that was not to be (think flu..cancelled party #1...think a foot of snow...cancelled party #2...think stomach bug 3 hours before party #3 was to start...).

However, we did make it to both of the boys school functions. The first one was Fall Fun at Ben's school. The kids were able to wear their costumes for the first time, play games, listen to fall stores, eat cookies, and take place in the costume parade.

One thing that the older boys learned this year is that while masks may look cool...they're very hot and uncomfortable...and they don't really like wearing them. I don't expect that they'll ask for masks again next year.

Two days later we were headed to Joe's school for Pumpkin night. All of the kids brought in a pumpkin that they weighed, counted the lines on, drew pictures of , decorated, etc. Afterwards they headed out to the playground to play and have smores. The PTC planned the smores portion of the evening and it went over really well if I say so myself. It was a perfect cool fall night.

Joe turns 6

On October 8th, Joe turned 6. He had a very busy day that day. He had school so he requested a special breakfast of cinnamon rolls

And in case you're wondering where Ben is...he's up there in one of those photos...hiding...for some reason he has been very camera shy lately!

Later that morning, I took cupcakes to Joe's school so that he could celebrate his birthday there. Since it was such a nice day we decided to eat them outside at the picnic tables! His class sang Happy Birthday to him and he got a birthday hug from his teacher, Mrs. Meyer.

It is our family tradition on birthdays that the birthday boy/girl gets to pick their dinner and we have cake/ice cream at home. Joe picked Arby's again this year:

Later that night we had cake, ice cream, and presents

The webkinz wasn't Joe's only present...he also got a playstation 2 and some games...it was in the bay window when he came home from school a few days earlier. We couldn't wait to give it to him!

As always, I can't believe that he is 6. I can't believe that he is in kindergarten. Time certainly does fly!!!

No nap today!

A certain little person in my house thinks that he no longer needs naps. He would much rather drive his cars around his bed then to actually sleep in it at naptime. Anytime he acutally does take a nap, it is usually a very short one.

Sometimes he does OK with no nap. Other times he ends up like this about 5 or 6pm....

Where have I been???

Wow! I knew that I was behind on blogging, but I had no idea that I was THIS behind...Almost 3 months. So I'm going to attempt to do a series of posts each day in order to catch up. So here goes...

September flew by with little more pictures taken then the ones from the first day of school. One of the first events that we attended in October was the Village Green Movie Night. From May-October, the Fairfield Fire Department hosts a family movie night in the Village Green park. They have free popcorn, free drinks, and balloon animals...If you've never gone (which we never had before) you should check it out in May! It's a lot of fun.

The Kindergarten Center PTC decided to try to get some families together at the October movie, sell tshirts, get to know one another, etc. It turned out really great. It was one of our first cool nights of the season where we had to break out our jackets.

Some of the highlights of the evening were the balloon animals...

the free glow bracelets........

and the popcorn and pop (in cans...all their own!!)....

All in all, it was a great night. It is definitely something that we are looking forward to attending again in May!

Ben's First Day of 3rd Grade

It's hard to believe that Ben is a 3rd grader this year. Wasn't it just yesterday that I was looking at preschools for him? Time has certainly flown by. After a fun summer that also flew by, it was time for him to head back to school.

This year, he was was able to ride the bus with a friend from next door. There was a new bus and a new bus driver this year.

When he came home, his brothers and sisters were waiting for him to get off of the bus...

A yummy snack was waiting, too...

Here he is!!

Ben had a great day and he loves his teacher!!

Now he's ready for a snack! All of that hard 3rd grade work made him hungry!

So far he is doing GREAT in school! His grades are great, he loves his teachers, he trades silly bands with the other kids at recess...the only thing he doesn't like is that there is a little girl who chases him around the playground trying to kiss him. When he's older he will probably hate me for putting this on the internet, but I think it's a little bit funny...and it's something I'll want to remember in the future! So in the blog it goes!!!
