Kids Say the Funniest Things...

While I should be cleaning right now...I thought I would take a few minutes to share a couple of funnies that came out of my children's mouths this week!

Joe:
Last night, while talking about Gatlinburg, Joe told me "Mommy, do you know what I'm going to say if I see a bear???" I replied, "No, what." All the while thinking he was going to tell them that he loved them or something such as that. Instead, he says, "Please don't kill me." Apparently, those conversations about why he can't actually hug a bear are sinking in!

Emma:
The other morning while laying in bed listening to the twins talk (one of my favorite things to do, by the way), I notice that their conversation becomes more "heated." All of a sudden, Emma yells "Jakey Ryan!" She sounded just like me.... Heaven help us all!

Ben:
Ben has been studying the Toys R Us back to school book we received in the mail very hard these past couple of days. Yesterday he comes downstairs with 2 big handfuls of change declaring that he has enough money to buy 2 leapsters! I proceeded to tell him that he didn't. He says, "UH-huh...I have 49 and 49 right here. I counted them!" We then had to have a conversation about the fact that he had 49 cents and a leapster cost $49.

Jake:
After banging his head yesterday, Jake wanted to sit on my lap and watch the cars go by outside. He was talking all about cars, and trucks, and woo-woos (trains). Then Emma comes up with a "hair pretty" wanting me to fix her hair. Jacob turns around, looks at her, and says "I talkin'!!!!"

Too funny!

How fast they grow...

Yesterday, I took some time to look back at photos of the kids from this time last year. It is amazing how much they have grown in a year! Emma had practically NO hair last year. Joe still had his chubby baby cheeks. Ben did not look like the big boy that he does today. And Jake was still mama's baby. Take a peak....

After looking at these photos I told the kids that they are not allowed to grow any more! They're getting too big! And while I'm excited about how big they are and all of the new things they can do...even looking forward to no more diapers one day, after 7 years of diaper duty...it makes me sad to realize that they'll never be this small again! My babies are growing up!

Jake's Dentist Appt

As most of you know, Jake was born with an attached upper lip frenulum. His doctor told us from the time of his one week appointment that when he was 2, it would need to be clipped. So last week, I took him and Emma to their first dentist appt...note: never take two two-year olds to the dentist at the same time. That dentist did not feel that his lip needed to be clipped. Which confused me because I've been told by his ped that it would have to be.

So this morning, I took Jake for a second opinion. This dentist felt the same...that we should not do it. She said that she'd seen worse. Also, contrary to what I've read online, it's a pretty significant procedure in that he would have to be put to sleep, the entire muscle would have to be cut to ensure that it didn't grow back, and the risk for infection was high. I was concerned that it would affect his speech since his upper lip is not able to move very much. However, she felt that most speech pathologists would agree that any speech problems would not be related to his lip being attached...if it was on the bottom, that would be another story.

As a mom, I just struggled with the question of what was the right thing to do in this case...Do I want him to have a semi-major surgery...no. However, I'm also fearful that later on down the road we will find out that we should have had it clipped! So for now, I guess I'm just going to go with the dentists opinions...and not seek out a "third" opinion. In hopes, that it's the right thing for my little guy! Hope you enjoy the cute pics of Jake!
